March 20, 2010
Two Writing Workshops
Nonfiction, Fiction Writing Genres
and Writing Career Coach Teresa LeYung Ryan

Please arrive at 10:45 a.m. for the March CWC Sacramento Branch luncheon program. Lunch will begin at 11:00 a.m. At 11:45 a.m. the Group Genre Workshop will get started.

Barbara O’Donnell will facilitate the fiction group. Participants will explore creativity, the writing process, and getting ideas and putting them onto paper. The discussion will also include the audience (who are you writing for), as well as plot, setting and characterization. Bring a project to share with the group. Copies aren’t necessary as the group will be reading their works.

Kathy Landis, who has sold nonfiction articles to custom, trade and consumer publications, will facilitate the nonfiction group. The discussion will focus on the basics of getting published, including crafting query letters, article development and marketing. Please come with project ideas and questions to ask the group.

Plan to stay for the bonus workshop, “Major League Tryouts With Writing Career Coach Teresa To Build Your Names.” This part of the program will begin at 1:30 p.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.

Writing Career Coach Teresa LeYung Ryan will show how you are the expert of your experiences, whether you’re writing fiction or nonfiction.

“When you make your name synonymous with the themes/subject matters/issues in your writing,” she says, “you are building your career/platform. You too can be happily published.”

She helps writers build their names by identifying the themes and archetypes in their fiction and non-fiction, before and after publication.

Her “22-minutes-for-22-days Build Your Name, Beat the Game: Be Happily Published” workbook will be available for $22. For more, see
http://WritingCoachTeresa.com.

Major League Tryouts with Writing Career Coach Teresa to Build Your Name

Here are three optional exercises you can try before the meeting.

Go to www.google.com. Key in your name inside quotation marks (example: "Charlie Brown) and press "Google Search." Make a list of the resultant websites in response to your query and bring the list to the meeting. Be sure to put your name inside quotation marks.

If you have renewed your membership with CWC-Sacramento branch, go to the members page on this site. Contact a board member and ask how you can help the club and get your name listed on the CWC website.

Building your name begins with linking your name with CWC.

What is a Personal Essay?
A personal essay demands the thoughts, feelings, ideas, and personal input of the writer. A writer will often write in the first person-i.e., using “I” for the narration, as in “I think” or “I feel”-and include personal anecdotes, thoughts, interpretations or ideas.
